Connect to an Active Lifestyle

Early on it became obvious to us at Jeffers Foundation that a crucial element in children's environmental education is just getting them outdoors. Schools can only do so much. Children's families must play the larger role in providing opportunities for children to get outdoors for unstructured Nature Play (see A Parents' Guide to Nature Play) as well as planned and structured activities.

It was primarily with the goal to get families outdoors together that our Chairman, Paul W. Oberg, suggested that we build the FamiliesOutdoors.Org web site. Here we aggregate a good number of activities by season where families can participate in a multitude of activities out-of-doors often at no cost.

Currently, the site has focused on the seven county metro area. If the need reveals itself going forward we can certainly cooperate with organizations in other parts of the state to provide a similar service. And for now we invite everyone to "Connect to an Active Lifestyle" with FamiliesOutdoors.Org.
