Hennepin Elementary
- Garden is located on the school parking lot
- Tied to state standards
- Greenhouse on site
- Plants native to MN and to student families’ country of origin
- Produce served in the school lunch program
- Plants are grown in moveable pots and crates
The plan was to grow plants that are both native to Minnesota and to the home countries of the ethnically diverse student population. Students have the opportunity to observe a variety of plants from around the globe in an educational urban setting. Plant diversity is a useful teaching tool to help students understand the difference in growing seasons and growing conditions in various locations around the world.
